Over the next few weeks, the Government is calling on all drivers to speak out on the EV transition and help identify what’s currently working well and what barriers still remain to make sure that EVs work for all drivers.

This Government consultation addresses the Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Mandate, the mechanism driving the EV transition and incentivising manufacturers to fully switch in time for the 2030 phase-out of petrol and diesel cars.

We know that 91% of electric car and van drivers wouldn’t return to petrol or diesel, but we also know that costs and equal and affordable access to charging continue to be a concern.

This is a great opportunity for you to help shape policies that will make EV driving better, more affordable and accessible for all.

As the only association campaigning for policy change for EV drivers in England, we are committed to capturing the real-world challenges and experiences that you face, and ensuring your voice is represented in our response.

Help us shape our response by completing and sharing this short survey about the barriers to EV adoption.

Your feedback will give us valuable insights into the challenges drivers face and help strengthen our proposals.

This will be followed by a series of member-only webinars, designed to dive deeper into EV drivers’ demands and the broader EV transition.

We’ll kick things off with Members’ Town Hall on 29 January at 12.30pm.

This live session will provide an overview of what the ZEV Mandate is, explain why it matters, and outline how we as EVA England can respond and make a difference.

We will be joined by Andy Eastlake, Consultant in Transport and Energy Engineering, Former CEO at ZEMO partnership, long-term EV driver, and James Vickery, Head of policy, ZEV regulations at the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV).

This is an opportunity to share your initial thoughts and ask any pressing questions.

From there, we’ll build on the discussion and gather more feedback from drivers like you, with two member workshops in early February:

Barriers to adoption | 5 February – 12.30pm-1.30pm

  • Early adopter? Reflect on the progress you’ve seen over the years and share which incentives have made your EV journey smoother.
  • New EV driver? Share the benefits that your car brings to you, and the hurdles you tackled when making the switch, from cost concerns to charging access. We want to know about the factors that ultimately influenced your decision.
  • EV curious? What’s holding you back from making the switch? Is it the upfront cost, concerns about charging infrastructure, vehicle choice, or something else? We’d love to hear what would make EV adoption easier and more appealing for you.

Our proposals | 5 February – 12.30pm-1.30pm

  • We’ll dive into our proposed measures, including tax benefits and policy ideas to tackle persisting barriers and improve EV adoption and ownership. Your input is invaluable in making sure we prioritise key recommendations in our official response.

To make it easier for all electric car and van drivers to join the conversation and give us a true picture of EV ownership in England, we’re offering half-price membership for your first year (£10 only, normally £20) if you sign up before 5 February.

Use the code ZEVMANDATE50 to sign up and become part of a passionate community of EV drivers advocating for a faster transition to electric mobility.
